Founders
Matthew Steele (Woodbridge, VA) is a co-founder of ChurchDex and leads product and technical strategy. He has served for several years as a worship leader and home group leader at Pillar Church of Dumfries, shaping his passion for helping people find churches where they truly belong. With over 10 years of leadership experience, Matthew brings a systems-driven approach to building scalable, user-friendly tools while keeping ChurchDex church-centered and grounded in real congregational needs.
Garrett Roy (Knoxville, TN) is a co-founder of ChurchDex and leads the business operations and is deeply committed to connecting with our users. His church leadership background includes serving as a lay elder at a church plant in Iceland, a deacon at Living Stones Church in Reno, and most recently as a community group leader at Northstar Church in Knoxville. These experiences inform ChurchDex’s focus on meaningful connection, healthy local churches, and lowering the barriers people face when searching for a new faith community.
ChurchDex began through a shared commitment to the local church. Matthew and Garrett met while serving together at Pillar Church, where conversations around relocation, church transitions, and the difficulty of finding a new church helped shape the vision for ChurchDex.
