Founded in 1855 and rooted in Foggy Bottom for more than 150 years, the church moved into its Virginia Avenue home in 1994 and retains many restored elements from its old sanctuary; the building is wheelchair accessible but has limited on-site parking. Known for progressive, More Light–affirming ministry and a strong social-justice orientation, the church hosts Miriam’s Kitchen onsite, supports many local partners (Project Create, Free Minds, Calvary Women’s Services, etc.), offers weekly children’s time and monthly Sunday School, choir-led music, regular adult education (Free Inquiry at 9:45 AM, in person and on Zoom), and convenient tech features like a mobile app, Church Community Builder access, and text/online giving.
